Tim and Eric, Awesome Clip

So James and I are talking about a future video project that is currently swimming in the ether. I’m not sure what it’s going to be or when it’s going to happen, but James told me to go look at a show called Tim and Eric, Awesome Show Great Job. He said that’s kind of what he had in mind for our next endeavor in not making money doing Internet videos. I haven’t delved into the show full tilt, but I wanted to share a clip I thought was particularly inspiring. The show itself is a short sketch show using green screen and cheap effects as part of the gags. It’s the kind of show that has to be seen in order to be fully understood, and it takes a special kind of individual to “get it.” This particular clip features John C. Reilly and is 1000 times funnier than anything in Walk Hard. It’s true. I measured.

Blue’s Tour Through Silithus

Silithus is a desert region in south-western Kalimdor. It is one of the last high level regions in Classic WoW before your character ventures into Outland, and is one of the most lore rich areas in the game. It used to be the seat of a great insectoid empire known as Azj’Aqir, with a race known as the Aqir bent on destroying all non-insect life on Azeroth. The War of the Shifting Sands began between the Aqir and the combined forces of the Alliance and Horde. This was the focus of patch 1.9 in World of Warcraft. As with the last Blue post, clicking on the image will take you to a larger version.

There is a neutral safe zone in the middle of Silithus maintained by the Cenarion Hold. The Cenarion is a joint venture between Alliance and Horde forces. They eventually sent an expedition team through the Dark Portal to investigate the further activities of the Burning Legion. Blue is standing on the edge of Cenarion Hold, overlooking one of the old Aqir fortresses. I don’t believe there is any actual game to be played in that fortress, but it makes for some very interesting scenery.

There is only one road through the zone and it is peppered by floating rocks. The road is only accessible via the north-west corner of Un’Goro crater. Cenarion Hold stands in the direct center of the road (and the zone) and the main focus of the Cenarion’s efforts in the zone is directed at what lies at the end of the road: the prison of The Scarab Wall. The night elves had decided to imprison the Qiraj behind the walls in order to impede their spread throughout the kingdom. Eventually the Qiraj found a way to multiply their servants, known as Silithids, and spread them throughout Kalimdor. During the War of the Shifting Sands, the gates of Ahn’Qiraj were opened via a global event as the night elves and the Cenarion decided it was time to put an end to the Qiraj once and for all. Players participated in both the opening of the gates and the elimination of the southern Qiraj threat. Two raids, one 20-man and one 40-man, set the stage for one of the last large raid areas in the game. It was not until the floating citadel of Naxxramas arrived that players would face a more difficult dungeon.

The 20-man raid took place in the ruins of old Ahn-Qiraj, the seat of power for the southern region of the Qiraj’s power. A faction of the race broke off and took residence in Northrend where they have yet to be set upon by either Alliance or Horde forces. The 40-man raid was set in Temple of Ahn-Qiraj and featured one of the most detailed boss fights in the entire game: an epic fight against the Old God, C’thun. These days the walls of Ahn-Qiraj stand silent as the Cenarion forces turned their attention towards Outland. The threat from the north is ever growing. The Qiraj, as well as other Old Gods, have yet to have their voices completely silenced.

The Worst Lvl 70 Player I Have Ever Seen

Darthrampage.

If you’ve even casually played World of Warcraft, you’ll know right off the bat how lame this toon is. Wearing mostly greens at level 70, single digits in his professions, not even bothering to pick up Cooking or First Aid (!), and some of the worst rep stats ever for a character that high in level.

As to why I am showcasing this toon, you’ll have to figure that one out on your own.

Blue’s Tour Of The Bay of Storms

Azshara is a zone in Kalimdor, the western most continent of Azeroth in World of Warcraft. It is a large coastal zone that once served as the Night Elf capital. Before the events of the Warcraft series, a great sundering of the world took place with the Night Elf queen Azshara allowed the Burning Legion to come forth into Kalimdor by delving too deep into the Well of Eternity. This led to the breaking of the world into two major continents. The great city of Zin-Azshari was sunk and Azshara, along with a great number of Night Elves , was transformed into the corrupt Naga. [source]

This is only my second time through the zone as Blue, my priest, is the only other character I am actively taking into Outlands at the moment. Azshara is one of the few zones in Azeroth that is worth exploring to its fullest, and I have been wondering why there is not an instance, either 5-man or raid, located here. The geography and architecture are ripe for adventuring on a grand scale.

These shots don’t do justice to the scale of the zone. There is one outdoor raid located in Azshara, a Blue dragon named Azuregos, once considered one of the most powerful bosses in the game, he has since been taken down by as few as 10 well geared players post-TBC. Here’s an old video of a guild taking him down.

This area is rich in lore, making it more puzzling why there isn’t more content to be had out here. This land is essentially where the events that led to the game known as World of Warcraft started. I’ve heard rumors that Blizz’s ultimate plan is to cap the game at 100 levels and that the final bosses will be the leaders of the Burning Legion within the Burning Citadel. I have hopes that before then Azshara will be revisited and the once great queen will make her return.

Alright, This Is Actually Funny, G4

I sort of used to bust on G4 and Attack of the Show, and for good reason. Any entity that is responsible for the demise of Tech TV deserves all the derision it gets. But I digress. This clip, either shown on AOTS or just promoting it, is actually a well executed bit of sketch comedy.

The spoiler whore bit was the best part, I thought. Nice to see that no matter how much shit you throw at a wall, eventually something sticks. Good job. [via]

GTA IV Widget

This is my countdown to GTA IV widget. I love it so much and it would go on the sidebar but my eGamer web code is on our old laptop. I can’t wait for GTA IV to come out. I am already wanting to sneak onto a boat to Scotland, break into Rockstar North’s offices and steal me a copy, but Andrea doesn’t think I could pull off such a scheme before the 29th. I think she is underestimating the prowess of a nerd. Anyway, here are some new videos that solidify, for me, why this game will rule so much (hint: it’s the minutiae).

This Is For My Old Guildies and The Ones That Remain

Update: Yeah, I lied. I’m no longer a member of The Risen. I saw that I was going to have same problems in the new one as I did in the old one, in that people looked at my toon and not me, and that I was mainly the guild clown and nothing more. I went to bat for that guild and had all my thoughts and perspectives co-opted. They must have just come out of thin air, right?

I forgot to mention in my last post that my healer, Argblue, is still a member of The Risen and shall continue to be one. Trahall is her bitch and makes all her money.

Anyway, whenever I get down, I just watch this video. I think it’s oddly appropriate. Be warned, it’s NSFW language.

I feel like this on so many days now.

Saddoes

I know that WoW is just a stupid MMO that a lot of people take way too seriously, but this just makes me sad. If you can’t view it for whatever reason, here’s the long and short of it:

Tonight The Risen went into Gruul’s Lair for a “farming run”, I was told. Before the third wipe was done on Gruul himself, people started abandoning the guild left and right. Hell, I had Trahall leave because I wasn’t having a fun with that toon and wanted to heal. I’ve been power leveling a Priest up for a few days now and was switching that toon as my main. Plus I was uncertain as to if I even wanted to raid with that guild anymore. Things were falling apart as we weren’t moving “fast enough” for some people who think WoW is a race to the end. So they left the guildf in a mass exodus to form The Fallen Gods. It was explained to me that this was in planning for about a week to ease tensions for those of us who don’t want to take the game so goddamn fast. So you want to rush to it because when the expansion does come out, no one will be doing those raids anymore. How does this add up? Because that’s what other people are doing means you have to do it as well? Way to conform to the popular kids. What about the people who just joined the game yesterday? What about the people who missed out on Classic content and have an actual interest in it because it’s part of the game? I thought I was joining a group of people who felt the same way I did. I thought the motto of “casual” raiding was it’s not a race but a marathon. It doesn’t matter when you finish, just as long as you finish.

I thought wrong, and that makes me sad. There were some really cool people that did me wrong.

“Still Alive” From Portal: Free On Rock Band, Today Only Forever!

[Update: Matt pointed out to me that my eyes were deceiving me. Major Nelson, the “face” of Xbox Live, confirmed on his blog that “Still Alive” will never be anything other than absolutely free. Thanks, Matt.]

There are going to be a lot of bullshit stories floating around the net today, what with it being April Fool’s and all. One thing that is not a joke is Jonathan Coulton’s song from Valve’s most excellent Portal is now available for download on Rock Band, at least for 360 users. Here’s the best part: for today only from now until eternity, the song is free. I’ve already been burned by what I thought were cool announcements once today, so I took this news with a bit more skepticism. When I fired up my 360, however, one of the ads on the dashboards was for “Still Alive.” Navigating into the Rock Band music store, there it was for 0 MS points. It’s the real deal. One of the most anticipated songs for the game, at least in nerdcore circles, is finally up and it’s free. Nothing else was released today, but a free song from a good songwriter is more than enough to make up for that.

PS3 users, sorry but you have to wait until the 17th, but my guess is you’ll get the same window of goodness 360 users are getting today.

New Computer And New Outlook On MMO’s

I’m back and ready to start writing again. Lots of stuff will be coming about World or Warcraft, as I’ve rejoined because we got a brand new computer! AMD Phenom quad-core processor, 3GB of ram, and an ATI HD 2400 XT cards with 256MB of video ram. All in all it’s very nice and I no longer suffer from dropped frame rates in any part of the game. Right now I’m waiting to go into Karazhan. . .literally. Here’s a picture of me sitting outside the instance.

I also joined Lord of the Rings On-line and am a lvl 9 Hunter. About to start the raid. More later, I promise!
